This policy brief provides recommendations for further action to implement the Asia-Pacific Regional Action Programme on Air Pollution (RAPAP), drawing upon the contributions of regional experts who participated in the sessions of the open-ended Working Groups on Air Quality Standards and Data under the project titled ‘Operationalizing the Asia-Pacific Regional Action Programme on Air Pollution’ funded by the Korea-ESCAP Cooperation Fund. It presents a summary of the status of air quality standards and monitoring across the Asia-Pacific and identifies opportunities for improvement to make effective progress towards clean air and the attainment of air quality guidelines recommended by the WHO. The policy brief particularly highlights the importance of regional and cross-sectoral cooperation for adoption and harmonization of air quality standards, robust air quality monitoring and science-based approaches, and sharing of fully open data.
